Del City’s basketball teams both competed in the Titan Classic last weekend at Carl Albert High School.
The Lady Eagles went 2-1 with wins over Putnam City and Collinsville and a narrow loss to Edmond Memorial.
On Thursday, the Del City girls came up short against Edmond Memorial 54-51 on the first day of the tournament. Paris Baker scored 12 points to lead the way.
“We got down big early but came back and showed we were going to battle the whole game,” said coach Mariah Webb. “That’s exactly what we need to get to where we want to be. We need to see those caliber teams and players.”
They returned the next day and rolled Putnam City 65-25. Shelby Thornton led the team with 14 points and Courtni McCarroll scored 11.
On Saturday, Del City wrapped up the tournament with a 56-29 win against Collinsville.
Sacha Hunt and Shelby Thornton were named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Eagles are currently in first place in District 5A-2 but will play all the teams once more before the playoffs.
“We’re pleased but we tell the girls not to be content with it, and don’t let it go to our heads,” she said.
The Del City boys competed in the Titan Classic on Saturday with a pair of close losses to Collinsville and Edmond North.
The Eagles fell to Collinsville 51-50 on Saturday afternoon and Edmond North 69-67 later in the evening.
Kamonz Shaw was named to the all-tournament team.
