A healthy alternative food option is taking Mustang by storm, and on Jan. 31 the business
officially celebrated its newfound membership with Mustang’s Chamber of Commerce.

Rush Bowls, an all-natural ingredient restaurant, serves a variety of bowls and smoothies
alongside Bow Wow Bowls that are also good for dogs.

Liz and Garett Howerton, owners of the store located next to Homeland in Mustang, spoke to
the factors that set Rush Bowls concept apart from many others in the area.

“I think the thing that sets us apart mostly is just the all-natural sugars,” Liz said. “We also offer
supplements such as boosts, wheys and proteins.”

The restaurant serves acai bowls, which is all-natural fruits blended together and is intended to
be a supplemental option for a meal.

The Howertons’ are from Mustang and have two kids in the Mustang School District and
Mustang Athletics currently.

That community affiliation is definitely apparent inside the store, where community pictures
like the Mustang Football Field and Mustang Football Helmets are on display.

“We just feel like, obviously Mustang is a growing community and we were very limited we feel
like compared to getting more into Oklahoma City, Moore, Norman and stuff like that (in terms
of) places to eat,” Garett said. “And we just felt like there was a niche that needed to be filled.”

The business also has reached out to be a staple for the community through its hiring process
to give those kids an opportunity to be involved. Many employees of the store either go to
school in the Mustang School District or are in college.

As for the Chamber involvement, Liz said the networking and opportunity to get Rush Bowls’
name out and chat with other business owners helps get the business going strong.
