105 Years Strong: The Life and Legacy of Eva Butler
This month, we are honored to spotlight Eva Butler, who recently celebrated an incredible 105 years of life, a life marked by resilience, adventure and a spirit that still shines today.
Eva was born April 4, 1921, and her early years were shaped by some of the most defining moments in American history. She was a young child in the aftermath of World War I, and by the age of 8, her family, like so many others, felt the impact of the Great Depression.
Growing up in rural Oklahoma, Eva worked alongside her siblings on the family farm during some of the hardest years the country has known. She lived through the Dust Bowl and came of age as the economy slowly began to recover, just as the nation entered World War II. Those early experiences helped shape the strength and determination that would carry her through the decades ahead.
Eva attended school in Cordell, Oklahoma, where she built the foundation for a life rooted in hard work and perseverance. As a young woman, she met her husband, Leo, who worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. The two married in 1970 and built a life full of both professional success and personal adventure. Travel became one of their greatest joys, and together they created a lifetime of memories.
In the late 1980s, Eva and Leo returned to Oklahoma, settling in Choctaw, where they raised their family. Eva is the proud mother of four children, who remain an important part of her legacy.
After nearly 50 years of marriage, Leo’s health began to decline, and he passed away shortly after the couple celebrated that milestone together. In the years that followed, Eva moved to Fountain Brook Assisted Living in Midwest City, where she continues to be surrounded by care and community.
Today, Eva is known as feisty, fun and full of life. She brings joy to those around her and carries a deep sense of pride in the life she has lived.
When asked about her outlook on life, Eva offered this advice:
“Be true to yourself. Trust your instincts and make sure you can face yourself after every decision. Live in a way that makes you proud.”
At 105 years young, Eva Butler reminds us that a life well lived isn’t measured only in years, but in strength, love and the legacy we leave behind.
At Signature Hospice, we believe every story matters, because every moment matters. It is a privilege to honor Eva and the incredible life she continues to live.
