The Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce has hired a second full-time employee.

Chamber President/CEO Tracy Qualls, IOM says the board of directors understood the need of a new full-time position to better serve the business communities of the Choctaw, Nicoma Park and Jones region of eastern Oklahoma County.

Thanks to increased revenue from recent chamber endeavors, a second full-time position has been created for the first time ever.

Rebecca Colton has been hired as the Director of Operations.

Colton previously spent 10 years as an English teacher for Harrah Public Schools.

“She will be the face at the front desk of the Chamber,” said Qualls.

“She is going to be responsible for looking into new programs that give our members a high return on investment.”

Colton is already hard at work helping establish a new Eastern Oklahoma County Leadership Program.

The program is intended to develop the next generation of active leaders and decision-makers of local business, government, non-profit organizations, schools and all other aspects of the growing community.

Through the leadership class, current and future business and community leaders will have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the community.

“Since we are expanding into the communities of Nicoma Park and Jones we really need things to get more involved, and make sure members get a good return on investment,” said Colton. “This is open to anyone in the eastern Oklahoma County community, and it will help participants really understand what’s happening behind the scenes of the community.”

Applications should be ready during the first week of August, and are available for anyone who lives or works within the Choctaw Area Chamber’s coverage area around Choctaw, Nicoma Park and Jones.

“Once we have applications, we’ll select 15 to participate in our inaugural class,” said Qualls. “You want each class to be small so they can really network and get the most out of it.”

Participation will cost $500 per chamber member and $600 for non-chamber members. The class will run September to May, and meet one day each month.
