The Choctaw Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Study Hub Aug. 31.
Founded by Kari Smith, an experienced educator with over 14 years of teaching at both Norman and Choctaw schools, The Study Hub is a community resource like has never before been offered in eastern Oklahoma County.
The new business, conveniently located on Choctaw’s Main Street , offers ACT preparation, subject tutoring and homework assistance.
With a lack of appropriate funding in public education, and the increasingly busy schedules of the modern family Smith and her team are dedicated to increasing the future possibilities of young people.
“Class sizes are huge and at many points in a child’s life they require one-on-one help to ensure they are not left behind. We help students with reading skills which are all vital to a good education. We help families with the frustrating time-consuming task of homework,” said Smith.
“Families are busier than ever; most students need to be taught how to study and prioritize their homework efforts. We prepare students for college by helping them raise their ACT scores, maximizing their opportunities and giving them knowledge to gain scholarship dollars. Just as one practices for a game; we practice taking the ACT test.”
Smith obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in Specific Learning Disabilities. She then went on to teach all ages and many subjects including reading, test prep, study and executive functioning skills, English and Contemporary Literature. She believes it is imperative to have strong reading skills and loves helping students gain these skills to be successful in all areas of school and in life.
The Study Hub, located at 2402 Main St. in Choctaw, is designed to provide students with a fostering environment to receive tutoring, prepare for the ACT and complete homework.
