Midwest City will not have a parade on Veterans Day, but residents will have a couple of chances to show their support to those who served.
Local veterans will celebrate the birthday of the Marines Corp with a flag raising ceremony at noon on Nov. 10. The event will take place at the Midwest City Veterans Memorial near the intersection of E. Reno Ave. and S. Douglas Blvd.
On Nov. 11, the group will host a Veterans Day event at 11 a.m. at the same memorial. They will post colors including a special Vietnam Veterans flag. Senior Master Sergeant (retired) “Pete” Piazza will be the guest speaker.
At 1 p.m., the Midwest City High School Vietnam Memorial, 213 Elm St., will host a Veterans Day service and re-dedication for the memorial. The group will unveil two new directional and historical informative panels which have been installed.
USAF Col (retired) Charles “Chuck” DeBellevue who was as selected the grand marshal for the parade will speak at the event, along with Mayor Matt Dukes and State Sen. Brenda Stanley.
