Residents and staff of Autumn House Senior Living Center received their first round of the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.

Deputy Director Joyce Cook said 100 residents and staff received their first of the two doses of the Moderna vaccine.

“We’ve been looking forward to getting the vaccine. Residents have been asking about it a lot,” Cook said.

Nurses with Passport Health administered the vaccines on Monday. The team will be back next month to administer the second doses.

Cook said they have been contact with the Oklahoma City-County Health Department about the rollout of the vaccine. The Oklahoma State Health Department started vaccinations at nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities and long-term care facilities in December.

“We thought we were going to get it earlier and then they ran out of vaccine, so they had to wait until today,” Cook said.

The vaccine was optional for residents and staff. Cook said some people wanted the vaccine but couldn’t receive it due to a recent positive case of the virus, and others had already received the vaccine.

Autumn House has about 150 residents currently.
