A popular Midwest City restaurant was damaged in a fire Thursday night.
Chequers Restaurant and Pub, 1009 S. Air Depot Blvd., suffered damage to an office and extensive smoke and water damage throughout the building, according to Fire Chief Bert Norton.
Crews rushed the scene just before midnight after a passerby saw smoke coming from the roof. Firefighters discovered a fire in a small office in the back of the building. They quickly extinguished the fire and checked the rest of the building.
“It’s sad to see. This restaurant has been a staple of the community for a long time,” Norton said.
Norton said the restaurant was closed and no one was in the building at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
The restaurant owner said on social media that they will be closed for a while but plan to reopen. They said the building structure appears to be in good shape and the fire also damaged the bar and downstairs dining area.
“I don’t currently know how long but I will say the plan is to reopen,” the post said.
Chequers has been locally owned and operated for more than 30 years.
