OKLAHOMA CITY – Carl Albert’s doubles teams left the competition in the dust last week at the Duncan West Tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

Emily Boyer and Rylee Reese breezed to the title at No. 1 doubles, while Brylee Toney and Lily Bryant didn’t drop a set at No. 2 doubles on March 22.

Boyer and Reese gave up only three games in the first-place finish. They beat an Ardmore/Ada team in the opening round (6-0, 6-0), followed by wins over Duncan (6-1, 6-0) and Altus (6-1, 6-0). Boyer and Reese then beat Ada in the finals 6-1, 6-0.

It was the pair’s second tournament win this year.

Toney and Bryant took down Putnam City (6-0, 6-1), Midwest City (6-0, 6-2) and Guthrie (6-3, 6-0) in order to advance to the finals. In the championship, they held off Ada 6-4, 7-6.

Georgia Mosher placed sixth at No. 1 singles and Zoey Shaw was eighth at No. 2 singles. Mosher earned wins over Midwest City’s Aiyonna Pitts and Putnam City North’s Winnie Du. Shaw opened with a win over Seminole’s Gracie Kuehner (6-0, 6-0) but lost the next two in tiebreakers.

Midwest City’s girls also competed in the tournament.  Georgia VanMeter and Addy Scott placed eighth at No. 2 doubles. They beat Lawton in the first round but lost to Carl Albert and OCS in the next two matches. Pitts was 2-2 at No. 1 singles, and Justyce Swain went 1-3 at No. 2 doubles.

The Titans finished second overall. Ada was the winner with 58 points, followed by Carl Albert (54) and Ardmore (50).

Carl Albert’s girls compete in the Putnam City North Tournament Wednesday at the OKC Tennis Center. The Suburban Conference Tournament is set for Monday, April 3 in Shawnee.
