Midwest City’s Ashton Hale recently took home the American Championship in Roller Speed Skating and the 50 Lap Race of Champions.
The competition was held in Hermitage, Pennsylvania on June 14-18. Chris Hale, his father and coach, has taught Ashton since he began skating at the age of four and supported him during the competition.
“He won his age group of 14-16 and then the 50 lap Race of Champions that is open to any 14 and older who placed in their division,” said Chris Hale, the manager of Star Skate in Midwest City since 2013 and Ashton’s father.
The 16 year old practices as much as two to three hours, six times a week in preparation for these competitions. Ashton practices at Star Skate in Midwest City and attends Casady School.
“Ashton competes internationally and is on the Junior World Team for Team USA,” said Linda Hale, Ashton’s grandmother. “He competed in Buenos Aires, Argentina at World Skate Games last season and is looking forward to earning a spot on Team USA again in August to represent the USA in Italy in September.”
