Mid-Del Group Home is hosting their fifth annual Run, Walk, or Roll for Independence fundraiser Aug. 19 at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City.

People can take part in the one-mile fun run or 5k race through the park.

The event begins at 8 a.m. and participants are asked to arrive at least 30 minutes early for check in. The check-in will be at Mid-Del Group Home Workshop, 1540 Republic Circle.

The starting and finish line will be located on the southwest side of the park near Century Blvd. and SE 15th St.

All proceeds from the event will directly benefit Mid-Del Group Home, which provides services and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The goals of MDGH are to enhance independence, encourage integration, and promote respect for individual rights.

“Just having so many people in the community want to help us is incredible,” said Joel Bain, executive director. “We couldn’t do it without the help of the community.”

Bain said they hope to buy a new van with money from the event. He said they’re also working on a long term project to expand their housing.

“We’re incredibly blessed with what we have now but to be able to add homes for six more individuals would be incredible,” he said.

Mid-Del Group Home was founded in 1983 and is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.
