Midwest City wrestler competes at nationals

A Midwest City girl represented Oklahoma at a national level wrestling tournament.
Eight-year-old Laneigh Cartwright took on the rest of the country in the 2024 USA Wrestling Kids Nationals June 27-30 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Laneigh placed fifth place in the tournament and is ranked 20th in the country for 8U Greco wrestling. The prestigious tournament is hosted for the nation’s top wrestlers from ages 7 to 14.
Cartwright is a very eager and confident wrestler and always has been. Laneigh has been competing since the age of six, following in the steps of her older sister.
Laneigh is one of the seven girls that wrestle for the Midwest City Bomber youth wrestling club. Where her father, Ricky Cartwright is the mastermind behind Laneigh’s success and one of the club’s coaches.
Laneigh has had tremendous victories in the past and has received numerous first place awards. She had taken first place in a Union Fargo qualifier Greco and freestyle, USA Oklahoma State in Greco, Southern Plains for girls under the age of eight for the 62- pound division. Laneigh has totaled up 12 first place medals. She also reached the milestone of 100 career pins.
Laneigh is a force to be reckoned with on the wrestling mat. When asked about the emotions leading up to the big tournament Cartwright mentioned the excitement and eagerness to compete at the highest level.
“I am excited and happy to wrestle in the tournament,” she said before the event.
Laneigh’s excitement is rubbing off on her family members as well. They traveled and supported the eight-year-old phenom.
“Laneigh is strong willed and very good at what she does,” said her mother, Jacee Cartwright “Myself and her dad will be proud parents regardless of what happens.”
