Del City High School’s volleyball team has been working hard this offseason.
The Lady Eagles are looking to build up their culture and the camaraderie under new head coach Audrey Sanford. A key part has been working on communication and leadership skills on and off the court.
“We are ready to develop the whole student athlete, not just the one on the court” said Sanford “Making sure that we are ready to conquer on and off the court is our main goal and expectation this year.”
Sanford was an assistant last year under former coach Aspen Healey.
Del City started their regular season practices last week.
The Lady Eagles have some returning leaders that are eager to showcase their skills and hardwork for the upcoming season.
“I think our team has shown a lot of improvement, and for myself getting more positivity to my teammates on the court.” said Paris Bazile, a senior
The team had its struggles last season coming together as a team and winning games, but many players are excited to build on the bond they have already created. They believe that can help translate to the team’s success on the court.
“I expect us to win more games and be excited for the bus rides and just have fun,” said Mariyah
Franklin, a junior on the team. “I have learned that we all have to start somewhere, but we should just be consistent with the little things.”
Del City opens the regular season Aug. 13 against Shawnee.
