Mid-Del educators got ready for the new school year Friday with the annual convocation at the Rose State College Performing Arts Center.

Faculty and staff from across the district attended to discuss the plans and changes for the upcoming school year.

Teachers received a warm welcome from Midwest City and Carl Albert cheer and pom. Many gathered with their fellow Mid-Del leaders and educators in the theater lobby to fellowship and take memorable photos to start the year on a positive note.

Mid-Del Superintendent Rick Cobb introduced Derrick “DJ” Walter Jr., a teacher at Midwest City High School, to give the opening statements and encouraging words about how Mid-Del educators should approach the upcoming school year.

“There was a village of teachers to help me get me where I am today,” he said. “You matter, you matter to the students, and you matter to yourself.”

Walter emphasized that there will be times where being an educator can get hard, but lifting and encouraging other faculty members is what drives the school district forward.

Following the introduction Cobb addressed the district leaders with the district strategic plan that will play a large role in the success of Mid-Del. The main focuses of the plan were technology, facilities planning, recognition programs, teacher mentoring and teacher leadership pathways.

Cobb closed by outlining the main goals for the 2024-25 school year which include student performance, climate, culture and communication along with human resources and development.

“The culture in every school is different, no school will be the same,” said Cobb. “The leadership and the people that are picked by the leaders are the most important jobs.”

The Mid-Del convocation focused on encouraging each leader and faculty member to approach education with a positive attitude and to always remember that Mid-Del is “one district, one family.”

Students will return to school Aug. 14.
