Lady Jackets take state runner-up

Choctaw High School’s fast pitch softball season came to an end Saturday night when Owasso claimed a 10-3 victory to clinch the OSSAA Class 6A Fast Pitch State Championship.

While it wasn’t the ending Choctaw had hoped for, the Lady Yellowjackets had much to celebrate as they concluded a successful season finishing second in the state.

Additionally, Choctaw claimed the Class 6A Academic State Championship for the highest team GPA of the state’s largest high schools.

Choctaw finished the season with a silver trophy and overall record of 31-6.

Before falling to Owasso, CHS beat Stillwater, 17-3, in a state quarterfinal and then topped Edmond Memorial, 5-1, in the state semifinal.

Lady Jackets fall in state final

Choctaw High School’s fast pitch season came to an end Saturday night in the OSSAA Class 6A Fast Pitch State Championship.

The Lady Yellowjackets ended the year on the wrong side of a 10-3 final to finish Class 6A Fast Pitch State Runner-Up, while Owasso went on to claim their first state title since 1995.

Choctaw outhit Owasso 12-9 in their third matchup of the year, but the Rams outscored CHS, 10-3.

Choctaw went 2-1 through the state tournament, and the state champions would go 2-1 ahead of Choctaw on the season.

Owasso had taken a 6-0 win over Choctaw back in August, and the Lady Jackets answered with a 1-0 win in September.

Choctaw cruised to a regional crown and then picked up state tourney wins over Stillwater and Edmond Memorial setting up the third meeting of the year of the two top-ranked programs.

The Lady Jackets had some success connecting, but couldn’t overcome an aggressive Owasso defense.

Payton Carrillo had four hits and an RBI.

Abby Schmitz had three hits on the night.

Anna Malaske had two hits, while Saige Bacon, and Mady Doty each had a hit.

Dakota Frizzell added an RBI for Choctaw.

Three innings of pitching was done by Kaydrian Fields, while Frizzell and Catherine Melton stepped in to help. The trio combined for three strikeouts.

In the opening round, CHS beat Stillwater 17-3.

In round two the Lady Jackets beat Edmond Memorial, 5-1.

Owasso opened with a 2-0 win over Bartlesville and then had a 6-5 thriller over Moore to setup the title game vs. Choctaw.

CHS went 3-0 in regional action to take the regional crown and punch a ticket to the OSSAA Class 6A Fast Pitch Championship Tournament.

Choctaw was named Class 6A Academic State Champions for the highest team GPA of the state’s largest high schools.

Choctaw finished the season second in Class 6A with an overall record of 31-6.
