Mid-Del swimmers celebrate senior night

Carl Albert takes second; wins Tulsa Washington dual meet

Carl Albert swimmers took second place at the Mid-Del Senior Invite last Thursday at the Edmond Schools Aquatic Center.

Deer Creek swept the meet that included Class 5A and 6A schools. The Lady Antlers won with 441 points and Carl Albert was second with 345. The Antlers won the boys title with 429 and Carl Abert was runner-up with 363.

The Mid-Del swim team recognized its senior swimmers with a ceremony midway through the meet. The seniors included Gatlin Walworth, Andrew Campbell, Kaleb Smith, Briana Smith, Georgia Mosher, Jaelyn Lewis, Zoe Cosgrove and Journey Blackwell.

Ridge Thornton led the way for the Titans with one individual title and three other top four finishes. The junior took the 200-yard freestyle title in 1:58.27 and was fourth in the 100 butterfly (58.84).

Thornton also helped take second behind Deer Creek in two relays.

Reece Rushing, Colt Cruzan, Thornton and Campbell were runner-up in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.77. In the 200 freestyle relay, Smith, Tyler Braun, Walworth and Thornton also placed second in 1:39.61.

The Titans won gold in the 400 freestyle relay. Braun, Rushing, Smith and Campbell won in 3:45.89.
Campbell finished second in the individual 100 freestyle (52.13). Rushing (50 freestyle) and Smith (100 butterfly) both finished third. Cruzan was fourth in the 500 freestyle.

Tyler Townsend led Del City by placing fourth in the 200 IM (2:27.23) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.12). John Ogden was 13th in the 200 freestyle and Hector Vargas finished 13th in the 500 freestyle.

In the girls competition, Carl Albert placed in the top four in all three relays.

Hailey Hunt, Briana Lam, Blackwell and Charlotte Peters took second in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in 4:11.10.

The Lady Titans claimed fourth in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.

Hunt, Peters, Briana Lam, and Blackwell finished the 200 medley relay in 2:04.89. In the 200 freestyle relay, Journi LaValley, Berkly Wilkins, Brenlee Lam and Mosher were fourth in 1:59.61.

Briana Lam was the top individual performer, placing third in the 200 IM (2:39.72) and 100 backstroke (1:08.80).
Peters was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.65) and fourth in the 50 freestyle (26.96).
Blackwell also swam fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:25.75).

Briana Smith represented Midwest City in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Carl Albert’s swimmers topped Booker T. Washington in a dual meet Nov. 12 in Tulsa.

Campbell led the boys team with four first place finishes. He won both the individual 50 and 100-meter freestyle events. He also swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Corbin Williams, Rushing, Campbell and Thornton won the 200 freestyle relay. And the winning 400 free relay included Tyler Braun, Smith, Thornton, and Campbell.

Thornton and Rushing each grabbed a first and third place individually. Thornton was the 100 butterfly champion, while taking third in the 200 free. Rushing won the 100 backstroke and came in third in the 50 free.

Smith was second in the 100 butterfly, and Braun (100 freestyle) and Colt Cruzan (100 breaststroke) placed third.

On the girls’ side, Peters won a pair of individual events and one relay. She took first in the 50 freestyle (29.45) and 100 breaststroke (1:22.32). She joined Briana Lam, Brenlee Lam and Blackwell to win the 200 freestyle relay.

Briana Lam took gold in the 200 IM and third in the 100 backstroke. Hailey Hunt was second in the 100 backstroke and Blackwell came in third in the 100 freestyle.

The Mid-Del swimmers traveled to Bartlesville earlier this week. Carl Albert will compete against Bixby on Dec. 3.
