A rematch between Carl Albert and Midwest City turned into a repeat.

The Titans took care of the rival Bombers Friday night with a 56-0 victory in the first round of state playoffs at Gary Rose Stadium.

Their defense contained Midwest City’s wildcat offense, while their offensive stars added big play after big play.

“I knew that if we came out firing on all cylinders, we’d have a really good chance at being successful,” said coach Mike Dunn. “Midwest City ran the ball and moved the ball on everyone since they moved to that wildcat look. They’ve been in every game. I was really proud of our defense’s effort. I thought our kids did a really good job.”

It was the second time the Mid-Del schools have played this year. Carl Albert beat Midwest City 49-0 in their home opener in non-district play.

The Titans (11-0, 7-0 in District 5A-2) will move on to the state quarterfinals against Claremore (9-2, 5-2 District 5A-4). The Zebras shut out McAlester 14-0 on the road.

“They [Claremore] are not afraid to run the ball, and they’ll get into some big stuff like Midwest City did and try to blood your nose,” Dunn said. “But they’re not afraid to throw it around either.”

The second-round game is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Gary Rose Stadium.

Seniors LT Simmons and Bryon Stubbs were unstoppable when they got the ball in their hands.

Simmons ran for 184 yards and three touchdowns on four carries. Stubbs had two receptions for 90 yards and two scores.

Delijah Matthews also scored on the Titans’ second play from scrimmage.

The Titans’ passing game was also on point.

Quarterbacks Devin Woodring and Daniel Newton each had a pair of touchdown passes.

Trystan Haynes led the team with three catches for 52 yards and one score. Sophomore Jacson Webster also had a TD reception.

Carl Albert forced a three-and-out to start the game and then needed only two more plays to take the lead. Matthews took the ball around the left end for a 26-yard touchdown with 9:17 in the first.

Midwest City (5-6, 4-2 District 5A-1) moved the ball across the midfield on their second possession but couldn’t score. The Titans delivered a stop on fourth down. Two plays later, Simmons took a handoff 61 yards for a score and 14-0 lead.

The Titans doubled their lead in the second. Simmons scored again on a 16-yard run for a 21-0 score. Haynes later had a punt return called back by penalty but scored on the 28-yard pass from

Woodring with two seconds left in the first half.

Carl Albert led 28-0 at halftime.

Simmons extended the lead with his third score of the night. He took an inside handoff and diced though the Bomber defense for a 54-yard score. That made it a 35-0 score with 5:58 in the third.

Stubbs showed his blazing speed with a 71-yard jet sweep, making it a 42-0 score late in the third.

The Titans tacked on two more scores in the fourth. Newton threw a pair of touchdown passes to Webster and Stubbs.

“It feels great but it’s a team effort,” Webster said. “I don’t get that opportunity if our starters don’t do what they did.”

Marcus James led the Titans with 13 total tackles with three for loss. Caden Davis had 11 tackles and Lebron Royal added nine tackles, including six tackles for loss.
