The first week of the season was a good one for the Midwest City girls basketball team.
The Lady Bombers went 3-0 last week including a pair of district wins.
Midwest City opened the season with a 54-49 comeback win over Duncan on Dec. 3.
“We came out a little weak and think it was some jitters since we lost five starters,” said coach Megan Maloy. “Then we got a lead on them and found our rhythm.”
Duncan led in the first half and well into the third quarter. Kloey Knox scored 10 points in the third and Ceidi Johnson made three 3-pointers. Johnson’s final trey came at the buzzer to put the Lady Bombers up 41-38.
They wouldn’t relinquish control as they outscored Duncan 13-11 in the final eight minutes for the win.
Knox led the way with 22 points including five 3-pointers.
“I was really confident in my team, and I feel like we just had some first game jitters,” Knox said.
Bailee Guthery scored 15 points and Johnson added 12 points.
Midwest City was back at home Friday night in a 68-30 win against Western Heights.
Johnson led the way with 16 points including four 3-pointers. Layla Jones was also in double figures with 12 points and Jayda Jacobs had eight.
On Saturday, Midwest City’s girls beat Millwood 66-37. Johnae Seay scored 18 points and Jones had 17 in the win.
Midwest City traveled to Lawton on Tuesday and will play in the Joe Lawson Memorial Tournament later this week. They will play at Del City on Tuesday.
