Mid-Del announces finalists for Teacher of the Year

A handful of Mid-Del teachers received good news before the holiday break.

The school district announced five finalists for district teacher of the year. Superintendent Rick Cobb and fellow administrators surprised the finalists at their schools Friday morning.

Teacher of the year finalists are Jason Jenkins, Christi Bradshaw, Elizabeth Taylor, Kimberly Butler, and Makensie Fields.

Jenkins teaches sixth-grade English Language Arts at Del City Middle School. He’s in his 11th year in education.

Bradshaw teaches the Gifted and Talented program at Soldier Creek Elementary School. She has been a teacher for 21 years.

Taylor teaches 11th and 12th grade AP Language and Comp, AP Literature and Comp, English IV at Midwest City High School. She has 23 years of experience in education.

Butler teaches Drama, Yearbook and Audio-Visual Productions at Carl Albert Middle School. She has worked in education for 39 years.

Fields is a kindergarten teacher at Parkview Elementary. She’s worked in education for 11 years.

Each of the 21 school sites selects a teacher of the year in the fall. That list was narrowed down to five finalists. The district teacher of the year will be announced Feb. 3 during an awards banquet.

The school site winners were Kellie Corey (Barnes Elementary), Tonya Knisely (Cleveland Bailey Elementary), Sarah Smart (Country Estates Elementary), Elisha Ashley (Del City Elementary), Valerie Minor (Epperly Heights Elementary), Victoria Schnakenberg (Midwest City Elementary), Makensie Fields (Parkview Elementary), Tayler Satterwhite (Pleasant Hill Elementary), Joshua Dubois (Ridgecrest Elementary), Amber Culbert (Schwartz Elementary), Christi Bradshaw (Soldier Creek Elementary), Stephanie Caughlin (Tinker Elementary), Mariel Columbus (Townsend Elementary), Kim Butler (Carl Albert Middle School), Jason Jenkins (Del City Middle School), Franki Sebock (Midwest City Middle School), Grant Little (Carl Albert High School), Courtney Allen (Del City High School), Elizabeth Taylor (Midwest City High School), Steven Duncan (Career Academy/MDVA), and Jason Stacy (Mid-Del Technology Center).

Last year’s Mid-Del School District Teacher of the Year was Tissa McClure, a teacher at Schwartz Elementary.
