Mid-Del high school athletic facilities will see improvements for next year.

The school board last week approved purchasing new lighting at the football stadiums, and video scoreboards for the gymnasiums.

Musco Sports Lighting, LLC, will furnish and install the lighting systems at a cost of $1,455,000 for the Carl Albert, Del City and Midwest City high schools.

The package will include 100 footcandle lights with ball-tracker technology that enhances visibility of the ball in play while reducing glare. The lights can be programed with theatrical lighting effects and synched to music.

The stadium lighting is scheduled to be completed by this summer, said Ian Wolfe, executive director of operations.

Nevco Sports, LLC submitted the winning bid for the video boards at a cost of $739,798.28.

The four-sided scoreboards feature 3.9mm LED true pixel video displays that are 6.56-by-11.48-feet. The package also includes LED displays for the shot clock and game clock, locker room clock, and scorer’s table, as well as lights for end of period and possession and bonus indicators.

The district will need to conduct additional engineering and structural work to hang the boards at each of the gyms.

The scoreboards will be suspended from the ceiling.

The district is also installing new video boards at each of the high school football fields as part of the 2023 bond issue.

In a related item, the board also approved a contract with Digi Security System for card access controls for the Carl Albert High School fieldhouse. The cost is $50,962.20.

The board unanimously approved the items at their Feb. 10 meeting.

The projects will be paid for with funds from Bond 37. The $492.7 million school bond package was approved by voters in 2023 with more than 75% of the vote.
