Midwest City finally found its rhythm last Thursday night, cruising past Putnam City West 38-0 for its first win of the season.
The Bombers (1-2) snapped a two-game skid and delivered first-year head coach Jacques Washington his first career victory.
“I think we’re just developing and getting better,” Washington said. “You can’t ask us to pop up in two months and just put it together in a perfect game versus two good teams. It’s just a steady get better; steady chopping the tree and then seeing the results. Hopefully a result like this teaches us how to win in a fashion like this and we keep building on that.”
Midwest City wasted no time setting the tone. Ryan Hollaway returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown, and quarterback Lincoln King hit Jacouri Fletcher on the two-point conversion.
King later connected with Aaden Sutton for a 13-yard score, followed by a two-point run from Dayveon Cochren, giving the Bombers a 16-0 first-quarter lead.
After an exchange of interceptions in the second quarter, Hollaway punched in a 1-yard touchdown run and added the conversion. Richard Harris capped the half with a 5-yard rushing score, putting the Bombers up 31-0 at halftime.
The defense did the rest. Sutton stripped the ball from Patriot runner Xavier Farrar and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. Both teams emptied their benches in the fourth as the Bombers coasted to the shutout.
Putnam City West fell to 0-3 with the loss.
Midwest City now turns its attention to a rivalry showdown with Del City (1-1) Friday night at Robert Kalsu Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
