Titans, Bombers headline District 5A-2 honors

Carl Albert and Midwest City high schools were well represented in the District 5A-2 basketball awards announced last week.

On the girls side, state champion Carl Albert claimed two of the top honors, while district champion Midwest City earned another.

Jakary Brown, who hit the game-winner in the state championship, was named Player of the Year, and Kyle Richey was selected Coach of the Year.

Carl Albert senior Audrey Plunkett was a first-team selection, while freshman Zoie Johnson and junior Hadyn Harrell were named to the second team. Vanessa Campbell, Kynlee Sutton, Meliah Hatchett, Annabel Crawford and Brynli Crawford earned honorable mention.

Midwest City freshman Brooklyn Henderson was named Newcomer of the Year and a first-team selection. Ceidi Johnson and Aurianna Walter were second-team picks. Aundrea Walter, Promise Wright, Maya Hodge and Sevyn Miller received honorable mention.

On the boys side, the Titans and Bombers swept the top awards.

Midwest City senior Deshawn Denson, the school’s all-time leading scorer, was named Player of the Year and selected to the all-defensive team.

Caleb Stephens and Kenyon Brown were third-team selections for the Bombers, who reached the state semifinals.
Carl Albert’s Lebron Royal was named Defensive Player of the Year, while freshman Gibson Johnson earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Jay Price was named Coach of the Year for the state runner-up Titans.

Brandon Rogers and Delijah Matthews were first-team selections, while Austin Johnson and Royal were named to the second team. Jordan Hawkins earned third-team honors.

Also receiving honorable mention were Johnson, Jax Wilkerson and Darion Thomas.

District 5A-1, which includes Del City, will be announced this week.
