OKC Broncos 8, Minco Bulldogs 1

The OKC Broncos traveled to Minco to take on the Minco Bulldogs baseball team. A hard-throwing pitcher with a sharp curveball kept the Bulldogs’ offense in check, while the Broncos maintained steady offensive pressure and eventually pulled away for an 8-1 victory.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings before OKC broke through with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Broncos added one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to build a 6-0 lead.

Minco managed to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, leadoff hitter and senior Landon McMahon drew a walk. After a flyout, Trapper Mulanax hit a ground ball that appeared to be a routine fielder’s choice to end the inning, but an errant throw sailed into right field, putting runners on second and third.

Bryson Bates followed with an infield single that drove in McMahon for the Bulldogs’ lone run. A popout to center ended the inning.

The Broncos added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 8-1 win.

Bates, Johnson, and freshman Britton Beck each recorded singles for Minco’s only hits of the game. Bates was credited with the RBI, while McMahon scored the lone run.

Andrew Dennis started on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched well, going 3.2 innings while allowing two runs, one walk, and striking out three batters. Trapper Mulanax pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and four runs while striking out one. Luke Biggs closed out the final two innings, surrendering two hits and one earned run.

Minco Bulldogs 5, #6 Wynnewood Savages 1

The Minco baseball team hosted the Class 2A-2 No. 6-ranked Wynnewood Savages last Thursday. The Bulldogs’ offense had some key hits, and excellent pitching from Mulanax and McMahon secured a 5-1 victory.

Minco got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning. Dennis began the rally with a double to center field. Bates followed with a single to left, and Ludwell drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

Minco added two runs in the third inning to extend the advantage to 3-0. McMahon singled to center, and with two outs, Mulanax reached on an error, allowing McMahon to score. Cashton Johnson followed with an RBI single to right, bringing home Weston McCracken, who came in as a courtesy runner.

Wynnewood threatened in the sixth inning, but with runners on first and second, a ground ball was fielded by McMahon, who stepped on third base and fired to first to complete an inning-ending double play.

The Bulldogs added two insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth. Bates led off with a single to center, and Ludwell tripled to drive him in. Freshman Cutter Willmon added an RBI on a fielder’s choice groundball.

The Savages scratched across a run in the top of the seventh inning, but a flyout to center field sealed Minco’s 5-1 victory.

McMahon and Bates each recorded two hits. Dennis had a double, while Ludwell added a triple and drove in two runs.

Mulanax pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four hits, no earned runs, and striking out three batters. McMahon closed out the game, giving up no hits, runs, or walks.

Luther Lions 6, Minco Bulldogs 1

The Minco Bulldogs took on the Luther Lions in a home contest on Senior Night. The Lions scored one run in each of the first three innings, added another in the fifth, and tacked on two more in the sixth to defeat the Bulldogs, 6-1.

Luther took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before Minco scratched across its only run. Bates opened the frame with a leadoff infield single. After two outs, senior Ashton Stephenson hit a ground ball between the first baseman’s legs, allowing courtesy runner freshman Eli Russell to score from second.

The Lions added two insurance runs in the sixth inning, and the Bulldogs were unable to push across any additional runs.

Mulanax had two singles. Stephenson was credited with the RBI, and Russell scored the lone run.

Landon McMahon started on the bump for Minco, pitching five innings while allowing two hits, two earned runs, and striking out seven batters. Andrew Dennis finished the final two innings, giving up three hits, two runs, no walks, and striking out two.
